Description
Celosia—also known as Cockscomb—is a showy annual that is easy to grow and makes the perfect cut flower for a striking bouquet since the blooms are stiff and waxy. There are different varieties such as the plumed type, with its striking upright spires, or the crested type with its fascinating twisted form. The flowers are beautiful fresh but they can be dried easily if hung upside down. And they bloom in the striking colors of a glowing sunset. The stems of the plant also reflect the color of the bloom, creating a vibrant effect.
Overall, Celosia are resilient plants with very few problems but do require a little maintenance. When first planted, celosia likes regular watering to help it get established, but once it gets going, it's quite drought tolerant. Consistent watering during hot, dry periods helps it grow better and bloom more profusely. You can enjoy success with celosia in just about any spot with full sun for at least six hours a day-- including container gardens, garden beds and borders, and landscaping.
