Pampa Grass

Description

With creamy white, feathery plumes and clumps of lush, grass-like foliage, pampa grass makes for an attractive and popular addition to most landscapes. It is native to southern South America and is named for the Pampas region in which it thrives. Pampas grass loves the full sun but will tolerate partial shade as well as drought and wind. It will also grow in a wide range of soil types but prefers moist, well-draining soil. It is a fast grower and does need plenty of room to grow. It works well as a filler for areas of your landscaping that are sparse such as corners of the yard or flowerbeds.

Care for pampa grass is minimal once it gets established and requires little maintenance other than watering in extreme drought. It should also be pruned to the ground annually typically in late winter or early spring. A lack of sufficient sunlight will affect the overall height of the plant and potentially the flowering ability. Due to the plant’s sharp foliage, take care when pruning by wearing gloves.
